Since Lumbani’s return to Malawi he has worked as a Research Associate in the Soybean and Cowpea Breeding Programme at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA). In thie role he worked towards improving soybean and cowpea production in Malawi and Eastern Zambia through the development, introduction and promotion of new and improved varieties.
