SOS Sahel

SOS Sahel is dedicated to relieving the poverty of marginalised groups who live in the drylands of the Sahel, the belt of semi-arid land south of the Sahara. It supports communities to effectively manage their local forests, water points, rangelands and farmlands, for a sustainable and peaceful future.

SOS Sahel is committed to African-led development, with all projects designed by its national NGO partners based in-country. SOS Sahel responds to the needs and requests of its partners, offering support, advice and capacity-building when needed, be it financial, programmatic or organisational. All projects involve SOS Sahel staff who are local to the area; projects are designed with and for the communities that they target. From the very start of a project, local people, community groups and policy makers are involved in activities to ensure long-lasting impacts beyond the life of the project.

Project areas:

  • Natural resource management
  • Livelihood diversification
  • Food security
  • Peace-building and conflict reduction
  • Trade and market monitoring
  • Linking small enterprise to market
  • Building capacity of civil society
  • Strengthening community and government links
  • Environmental rehabilitation
